University Health is the first and only health system in San Antonio and South Texas to earn the prestigious Magnet status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Only 6% of the nation’s hospitals earn this “gold standard” in the measuring the quality of care.

The float pool provides an excellent opportunity for nurses to work throughout the hospital in a variety of units, including medical/surgical, ICU and Pediatric. Float pool nurses treat a diverse range of patients and enjoy the variety of working in different settings. The float pool provides an ideal setting for nurses who would like the opportunity to work in a variety of areas. Full-time and Part-time with benefits or PRN positions available.

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides basic leadership skills for assigned patients, collaborates with other departments and utilizes critical thinking process to proactively implement nursing plan of care. The radiology nurse provides nursing care to inpatients and outpatients of all ages in diagnostic radiology, special procedures, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, computerized tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Serves as mentor to the staff nurse and ancillary personnel; receives mentoring from Staff Nurse II and III; and Patient Care Coordinator. It is expected that full-time staff will work a compilation of primarily 10hr shifts, interspersed with 8 and 12hr shifts, to total 80hrs per 2 weeks. The same expectation applies to 36 and 24hr employees, as applicable to their weekly expectation.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

BSN highly preferred, with minimum of one year experience required in a critical care or emergency room setting.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Current license from the Board of Nurse Examiners of the State of Texas to practice as a registered nurse is required. Must have current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS Provider cards upon hire. PALS Provider card is required within 6 months of hire.
