The University Counseling Center (UCC) is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and aligned under the Wellness Team consisting of Campus Recreation, Student Health Services, Care and Resource Support, and Financial Wellness. Accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) and American Psychological Association (APA), the UCC exists to ensure healthy and thriving lives for the University of Pittsburgh's diverse student population by providing crisis intervention, outreach, workshops, group, individual, and relationship therapy. The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a clinician to join the UCC as a member of the Higher Education and Response Team (HEART) team with interest and/or experience in crisis intervention. This clinician will work closely with the The University of Pittsburgh Police/Public Safety to provide support and crisis intervention to students with emergent behavioral/mental health concerns. This clinician will also provide individual and group therapy; clinical consultation; outreach programming; and clinical supervision and training as assigned. This clinician will have the opportunity to serve on committees within and outside of the UCC.
Job Summary
Provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and drug and alcohol assessments; creates assessments and therapeutic courses of action. Creates and facilitates student psycho-educational, prevention, and support groups as well as student success programming. Instructs undergraduate classes; administers campus-wide initiatives. Assists to train interns and staff.
Essential Functions
- Respond to students experiencing urgent or crisis concerns in collaboration with University of Pittsburgh Police/first responders
- Co-respond to welfare checks and other crisis calls for student with emergent mental/behavioral concerns
- Engage in risk assessment and safety planning
- Transport and support students for further assessment at local facilities
- Provide individual counseling, group counseling, clinical consultation, outreach programming, crisis intervention, and case management
- Provide supervision and training to Master's level trainees/interns
Physical Effort
This position requires a mixture of sedentary responsibilities and movement around campus when responding to welfare checks and crisis calls. The employee must be comfortable driving a vehicle in and around the Oakland campus when traveling to and from calls and when transporting students to emergency facilities.
