Position Overview

We are seeking a part-time Staff Attorney to join a multidisciplinary team providing legal services and advocacy to older adults experiencing abuse and other forms of vulnerability.

This role involves direct legal services, shelter resident advocacy, and court appearances throughout New York City and Westchester County , including Family, Housing, and Supreme Courts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct legal services and advocacy to clients and shelter residents
  • Develop legal strategies in collaboration with social workers and other multidisciplinary professionals
  • Represent and advocate for clients in relevant court proceedings
  • Coordinate and deliver trainings and community outreach for professional audiences
  • Assist with grant writing, reporting, and related program activities
  • Participate in policy and legislative initiatives related to elder justice
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, government agencies, and law enforcement
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address complex client needs
  • Support broader initiatives focused on protecting vulnerable older adults

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required
  • Admission to practice law in New York State required
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience with elder abuse, domestic violence, or victim advocacy preferred
  • Strong commitment to serving vulnerable populations
