Duties
NOTE: If the position is filled at a lower grade level, subsequent promotion to the next grade level will be processed without further competition under the Merit Promotion Program at such time as performance and qualification requirements are met and classification review discloses the duties being performed properly warrant classification to the next higher grade level.
Summary of Duties:
- Reviews correspondence and other documents for the Superintendent's signature.
- Answers telephone calls and greet visitors.
- Serves at the timekeeper.
- Prepares and reviews travel authorization and travel vouchers in the travel system.
- Serves as the purchaser for small procurements.
- Responsible for proper file maintenance accordance with the Privacy Act, Departmental and Bureau policies and procedures.
- Works closely with the Administrative Officer in all aspects of budget activities.
Qualifications
Experience and Education Requirements: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, GS-0303).
GS-6: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service which involved providing program and administrative support such as answering telephone calls and greeting visitors; serving as a mail clerk; processing time and attendance records; preparing correspondence and reports; maintaining office filing systems; and ensuring that all requests for action or information are acted upon and due dates are met.
GS-7: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service which involved providing program and administrative support such as answering telephone calls and greeting visitors; serving as a mail clerk; processing time and attendance records; preparing correspondence and reports; maintaining office filing systems; assisting with budget activities; scheduling meetings and making travel arrangements; and ensuring that all requests for action or information are acted upon and due dates are met.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
Proficiency Requirement: In addition to meeting the experience or education requirements, applicants must show possession of typing and office automation skills. Applicants may meet the typing requirement by passing the appropriate test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificate by the Office of Personnel Management local office or by self-certifying their proficiency.
Education
Foreign Education: If you are using foreign education to meet qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education.
Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part in foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation upon request. Failure to provide such documentation when requested will result in lost consideration.
