Job Summary
Exciting opportunity for Class A Modelling will oversee the creation of high-quality digital and physical surface models that define the aesthetic and functional aspects of automobile designs. This role requires expertise in Class A surfacing, leadership in guiding modelers, and close collaboration.
This role is crucial for driving the development of high-quality Class A surfaces for automotive design. The successful candidate will ensure both aesthetic integrity and manufacturing feasibility, translating design concepts into production-ready digital models with precision.
Responsibilities
- Lead the creation and refinement of Class A surfaces for exterior and interior automotive components, adhering to design intent and technical specifications.
- Ensure all developed surfaces meet stringent precision, quality, and manufacturability standards for production.
- Translate design sketches, concepts, and physical models into high-fidelity digital Class A surface data using advanced surfacing techniques.
- Collaborate closely with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to integrate styling intent with technical requirements and constraints.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a team of Class A modelers, fostering skill development and best practices.
- Conduct thorough quality assurance checks on all surface models to ensure adherence to Class A standards for smoothness, continuity, and curvature.
- Develop and implement efficient surfacing methodologies and workflows to optimize project timelines and deliverables.
- Participate in design reviews and provide expert feedback on surface quality, feasibility, and potential improvements.
- Manage project timelines and resources effectively to meet design and engineering milestones.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, software advancements, and best practices in Class A surfacing and digital design.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Design, Automotive Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5-12 years of progressive experience in Class A surfacing within the automotive industry.
- Proven expertise in creating Class A surfaces for both exterior and interior components, demonstrating a strong understanding of aesthetic and functional requirements.
- Strong proficiency in industry-standard CAD software such as Alias, ICEM Surf, CATIA, or NX.
- Deep understanding of automotive design principles, manufacturing processes, and material properties.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in guiding and mentoring technical teams.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information clearly.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
