Role Description The Specialty Pharmacy Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in San Francisco, CA. This role oversees daily operations of the specialty pharmacy, including staff supervision, workflow optimization, and ensuring safe, efficient dispensing of complex medications. The manager collaborates with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other clinical teams to support appropriate prescribing, medication access, and adherence programs for patients with specialty conditions. Responsibilities include maintaining compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, overseeing inventory and procurement of specialty drugs, and implementing quality improvement initiatives. The role also involves developing protocols, supporting immunization services where applicable, managing performance metrics, and contributing to strategic planning and patient-centered program development within UCSF Health.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in pharmacy practice and specialty pharmacy operations, including experience with complex medication therapies.
- Ability to effectively lead and support pharmacy technicians, including workforce planning, training, and performance management.
- Strong knowledge of prescription processing, medication safety protocols, and related regulatory requirements.
- Experience coordinating immunization services and adherence to immunization guidelines within pharmacy settings.
- Current pharmacist license in the state of California (or eligibility to obtain), with a PharmD or equivalent degree.
- Prior management or supervisory experience in a hospital or health system pharmacy, preferably in specialty pharmacy.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with pharmacy information systems, electronic health records, and data-driven quality improvement initiatives.
- Commitment to equitable, patient-centered care and the ability to work effectively with diverse patients and colleagues.
