Job Description
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting SCDF regulatory requirements for the Company Emergency Response Team (CERT) and in responding to incidents and emergencies across NUS.
Key Responsibilities
- CERT Duties: Perform CERT duties as a member of the NUS Emergency Response Team (ERT).
- Incident Response: Provide prompt response to incidents and emergencies when activated, using ERT response vehicles such as motorcycles, cars, or vans.
- Firefighting Support: Fight incipient fires and operate firefighting and protection equipment, including Compressed Air Foam (CAF) backpacks, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), fire extinguishers, firefighting hoses, portable pumps, hydrants and risers, fire alarms, and Fire Command Centre (FCC) operations.
- Fire Safety Inspections and Training: Assist in conducting building fire safety inspections, fire drills, and practical fire training; report faults in fire alarm systems; and coordinate checks and maintenance for CERT equipment and ERT response vehicles.
- Risk Rectification: Work with internal stakeholders to rectify fire safety risks identified during daily patrols.
- Mitigation of Fire Alarm Activations: Work with fire safety system service contractors to mitigate fire alarm activations.
- Emergency Coordination: Coordinate with SCDF and the NUS Crisis Emergency Management (CEM) Team during emergencies.
Qualifications
- Education: Minimum GCE 'N' Level.
- Relevant Experience: Relevant firefighting experience from SCDF, AES, MPA, or equivalent organisations.
- Riding Licence: At least a Class 2B qualified riding licence for motorcycles not exceeding 200cc.
- Driving Licence: Preferably a Class 3 or 3A driving licence.
- Fitness: Physically and medically fit to carry out ERT-related duties, with no colour vision deficiency or hearing impairment.
- Technical Competency: Preferably have attended the WSQ Respond to Fire & HazMat Emergency Course or equivalent firefighting/HazMat training, with knowledge and awareness of HazMat incident containment.
- Skills: Computer literate, with good communication and report writing skills.
- Work Schedule: Able to perform shift work, including extended shifts, weekends, and public holidays, and willing to be recalled during off-duty and rest days due to operational exigencies.
