Focus Plus Academy is a private microschool serving bright, capable students in grades 6–12 who benefit from a smaller, more structured and individualized learning environment.

We are seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher / Learning Support Lead to work with a small group of middle and high school students.

This role is ideal for an educator who is calm, structured, flexible, student-centered, and excited to help students build confidence, independence, executive functioning, and practical learning skills.

Our students may have ADHD, executive functioning challenges, autism spectrum profiles, or related learning differences, and are able to participate successfully in a small, structured, mainstream academic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individualized, small-group, and one-on-one academic support across core academic subjects
• Support executive functioning skills, including organization, planning, task initiation, time management, and follow-through
• Adapt instruction for students with ADHD, executive functioning challenges, autism spectrum profiles, learning differences, or similar learning support needs
• Maintain a calm, structured learning environment with clear expectations and predictable routines
• Help students stay organized, engaged, accountable, and on track with individualized academic programming
• Help develop and implement executive functioning, life skills, projects, and practical learning activities
• Support movement/physical education activities as part of the school day
• Use online curriculum platforms and educational technology as part of the instructional model
• Build positive, professional relationships with students and families
• Communicate student progress, strengths, and needs clearly and professionally
• Collaborate with the School Director and support staff to adapt curriculum, routines, learning plans, and student supports as needed

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Experience teaching or academically supporting middle and/or high school students
• Experience supporting students with ADHD, executive functioning challenges, autism spectrum profiles, learning differences, IEPs, 504 plans, or similar learning support needs
• Comfortable supporting students across multiple academic subjects at a generalist level
• Calm, structured, flexible, organized, and student-centered
• Strong communicator with students, families, and colleagues
• Current or prior teaching license from North Carolina or another state preferred
