About the role

Duties
Air Reserve Technicians are full-time civilian employees who are also members of the Air Force Reserve unit in which they are employed. In addition to their civilian assignments, they are assigned to equivalent positions in the Reserve organization with a Reserve military rank or grade. Appointee’s civilian assignments will consist of the following duties:

  1. Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of a Space Squadron Flight operating a weapon system.
  2. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  3. Performs as Space Weapons System Expert, Instructor and/or Evaluator.
  4. Training and Readiness Management.
  5. Equipment Enhancement and Sustainment, Mission Planning and Staff Duties.

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-12) or equivalent. This experience typically includes space weapons system operations; mission operations, development of Tactics Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) for system employment, system maintenance (including preventative maintenance, repairs and upgrades), recommendation of system configuration changes, standardization and training matters pertaining to weapon system operations, force presentation for deployed system assets and personnel, simulator training, and inputs to the formal personnel training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the application of space weapons systems to deliver space-based effects, as minimum with crewmember practical experience.
  2. Knowledge of and ability to formulate plans and courses of action pertaining to space system weapon system operation to include: general space operations, command center communications, intelligence procedures/current operations, orbital safety and the relationships of the various Air Force Reserve, other MAJCOM, Air Force and Joint entities in overall planning and execution of military space operations and evaluations to include performance in at least one operational area (Space Situational Awareness, Command and Control, Space Protection, Space Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance, Missile Warning/Defense, MILSATCOM, Space Position, Navigation & Timing, Space Testing, Training, Tactics & Exercises, AF Satellite Control Network Operations or Space Launch).
  3. Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, and techniques for employment of various unit-assigned weapons system(s) and ability to integrate with knowledge of Department of Defense missions, military command structure, civilian partner structures, space weapon system program, and organizational relationships, as well as, related laws, directives, technical concepts and technical information.
  4. Ability to define, develop, plan, organize, and direct space operations functions; and mentor, motivate, and appraise staff through subordinate supervisors.
  5. Ability to define, develop, institute, analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing developing and presenting highly technical weapon system operational concepts and complex results that may be controversial.
  7. Ability to resolve complex issues and maintain good working relationships.
