About the role

Sovereign Finance Associate Attorney An elite international law firm is seeking a junior to mid-level associate to join its market-leading Sovereign Finance practice. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious attorney to work on some of the most sophisticated and high-profile sovereign and cross-border financing transactions in the global marketplace.

The team advises sovereign governments, state-owned enterprises, multilateral development institutions, and other key market participants on complex capital markets and financing matters. Associates will gain exposure to groundbreaking transactions that influence global financial markets and economic development initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.

This role is ideally suited for an attorney who is passionate about international finance, enjoys working across cultures and jurisdictions, and is eager to take on meaningful responsibility from day one. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with clients, counterparties, and senior lawyers on innovative financing structures and strategic transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on sovereign bond offerings and debt capital markets transactions.
  • Support liability management exercises, financings, refinancings, and sovereign debt restructurings.
  • Assist with derivatives, project finance, and other complex cross-border transactions.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate transaction documentation.
  • Conduct legal and commercial analysis relating to international financing matters.
  • Work directly with governmental entities, financial institutions, and multinational stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Previous experience working in a law firm is required.
  • Approximately 1-4 years of relevant transactional experience.
  • Fluency in both Portuguese and Spanish is required.
  • Experience in capital markets, finance, sovereign debt, project finance, or related cross-border transactional matters is strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, internationally focused practice.
