About This Role
Serving as the second-in-command in the kitchen, the Sous Chef will execute the Head Chef's vision and contribute their own perspective while growing their craft under mentorship. This role is ideal for a passionate cook who wants to learn deeply from skilled chefs in a small, intentional kitchen, cooking five-course tasting menus for a communal table.
Responsibilities
- Execute the Head Chef's menu with consistency, care, and attention to plating
- Run your station with mise en place, timing, and discipline
- Pace courses for the 20-seat communal prix-fixe service at Wit & Wisdom
- Maintain quality standards under pressure — every plate, every night
- Step into other stations when service demands it
- Perform prep work, butchery, sauce work, and ingredient breakdown depending on station
- Support the Head Chef with menu development, seasonal sourcing, and recipe testing
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe kitchen — your station and shared spaces
- Track inventory and flag low stock or quality issues
- Learn from a skilled Head Chef and a Le Cordon Bleu-trained General Manager
- Bring your own ideas and grow your repertoire over time
- Contribute to a kitchen culture rooted in pride, precision, and mutual respect
Requirements
- Passionate about food — you care about technique, flavor, and presentation
- Open to learning under a strong mentor; comfortable being #2
- Reliable and steady — when service starts, you're ready
- Calm under pressure; you don't fold when tickets stack up
- Detail-oriented — plating consistency matters to you
- Physically able to stand for long shifts, lift up to 50 lbs, and handle the heat of a kitchen line
- A team player — you jump on dish, run food, or step into another station when needed
- Culinary school graduate or experienced cook looking to grow under skilled mentors
- Love the rhythm of dinner service and the craft of plating
- Drawn to tasting menu and prix-fixe cooking — the focus, the pacing, the intentionality
- Prefer to cook excellent food in a small intentional kitchen than turn out volume in a big one
- Ready to invest in your craft for the long haul

- 3 weeks PTO after 6 months
Important Details
- Schedule: Primarily Wednesday through Sunday, including evening dinner service
- Reports to: Head Chef and General Manager
