About This Role

This Sous Chef role at Velora Mediterranean Bar & Grill in Bedford involves supporting the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations, combining hands-on cooking with team leadership and organization. Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring smooth and efficient food preparation and service
• Assist in leading, motivating and supervising the kitchen team, maintaining a positive and professional working environment
• Take responsibility for kitchen operations in the Head Chef's absence, ensuring food quality and service standards are maintained
• Prepare, cook and present Mediterranean-inspired dishes to consistently high standards
• Maintain excellent food quality, portion control, consistency and presentation across all dishes
• Coordinate food preparation and support efficient kitchen workflows during busy service periods
• Assist with stock control, ingredient preparation, inventory management and minimising food waste
• Ensure compliance with food hygiene, allergen management, health and safety regulations
• Work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth communication and an exceptional dining experience
• Contribute creative ideas towards menu development, seasonal specials and improvements to our food offering
• Support the training, guidance and development of junior kitchen staff
• Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen at all times

Requirements

• Previous experience in a professional restaurant kitchen is desirable, ideally as a Sous Chef, Chef de Partie or similar
• Experience with Mediterranean cuisine is an advantage
• Genuine passion for cooking, food quality and presentation
• Strong teamwork, communication and leadership skills
• Good organisational and time management abilities
• Confidence working under pressure in a fast-paced restaurant environment
• Good understanding of food hygiene, allergen awareness and kitchen safety standards
• Ability to support stock management and efficient food production
• Proactive, reliable and professional attitude
• Creativity, attention to detail and a willingness to learn and develop
• Kitchen experience: 1 year (preferred)
• Work authorisation: United Kingdom (preferred)
