Sonographer

About This Role

This sonographer role involves using advanced sonographic equipment to capture detailed images of blood, organs, tissues, and bodily masses, including unborn fetuses, to provide critical visual data for diagnosis and prenatal care. The position requires direct interaction with patients, explaining procedures and preparing them for scans, and meticulously operating equipment to ensure clear, diagnostic images.

Responsibilities

• Utilize advanced sonographic equipment to record detailed images of blood, organs, tissues, and bodily masses, including unborn fetuses
• Provide critical visual data for diagnosis and prenatal care
• Directly interact with patients, explaining procedures, answering questions, and preparing them for scans
• Meticulously operate sonographic equipment, adjusting settings and patient positions to ensure clear, diagnostic images
• Monitor and care for patients to ensure their safety and comfort
• Select and examine images for pathologies
• Present preliminary findings to Physicians
• Utilize high frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the monitoring and growth during pregnancy
• Review/mount test results for physician interpretation
• Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures as prescribed by a physician
• Perform exams based on patient anatomy and habitus
• Position patients for the proper view of the affected area
• Select the appropriate scan images to be recorded
• Obtain essential information from patients, medical records and previous scans for clinical correlation
• Prepare patients for interventional procedures
• Instruct patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure
• Help patient transfer to exam table and ensure adequate patient immobilization to perform the scan
• Know how to change scanning parameters to improve a scan
• Obtain diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient with the transducer
• Provide documentation of ultrasound exam sufficient for physicians to interpret
• Assist Radiologists and other Physicians in the performance of exams and procedures that require a physician
• Perform exams in all areas of the hospital such as portables on units, portables in ED and portables in OR

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of an ARDMS or AART approved ultrasound training program
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) within 90 days of hire
