Sommelier

About This Role

Serving as the primary salesperson and ambassador for the beverage program, the Sommelier will possess extensive knowledge of beer, wine, cocktails, and spirits. This role is crucial in setting the tone for the guest experience through excellent customer service and a welcoming demeanor. The Sommelier is also responsible for managing the venue's wine inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and ensuring proper accounting within the POS system on a weekly and monthly basis.

Responsibilities

• Maintain complete knowledge of the wine list, and wine and food pairings
• Clean equipment, tools, and supplies for wine service and ensure equipment is in good working order, including cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance
• Maintain and update cellar/storage inventory according to set pars and internal controls, and request product to maintain stock
• Meet regularly with the wine trade to actively seek quality wines for the restaurant wine program as well as evaluate wines and other beverages for potential purchase
• Eliminate waste by training and supervising employees on wine knowledge, pour levels, proper storage, etc.
• Verify accuracy of wine delivery ordered and received from the main warehouse and return or exchange deliveries when a warehouse error has occurred
• Maintain appropriate beverage costs by managing purchases and requisitions
• Perform other job-related duties as requested

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a high-volume, elevated dining restaurant
• Must be 21+ years of age
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Must be detail-oriented and possess effective communication and written skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Must be a team player
• Self-motivated and performance-driven
• Professional and courteous
• Remain in a stationary position for up to 8 hours throughout the work shift
• Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
• Punctuality and regular and reliable attendance
• Effective communication, written and interpersonal skills

Nice to have:

• Certified accreditation from a recognized organization (Court of Master Sommelier / WSET)
