About the role
The Area Operations and Maintenance Division of Meetinghouse Facilities Department is seeking to appoint a Maintenance Technician. This is a permanent full-time position based at the Solomon Islands FM Office located at Nambawan Delite Centre, Ranadi Area, Honiara. The position supports the SLB Facility Management Group and reports to the Facilities Manager.
The Maintenance Technician will help provide and maintain a range of facilities including meetinghouses, administration facilities, grounds, and mission quarters, which provide Church members places where they can worship, learn, pray, make, and renew sacred covenants.
Specific duties include servicing, repairing or replacement of key facility systems, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, painting and plastering, carpentry, window, and door repairs, tiling, supporting technical issues and general handyperson duties. You may be required to travel within Solomon Islands.
- Three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and progress toward or completion of a relevant post-secondary qualification or industry-recognized certification
- Experience in at least three trade areas such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical work, or equipment maintenance.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and follow safety procedures, manuals, and work instructions.
- Proficient with computers, mobile devices, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong time management and ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to operate a company vehicle.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 23kg.
- Capable of using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, rooftops, and in confined spaces.
- Able to climb stairs, walk across large sites, bend, stoop, crouch, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
- Ability to travel between locations and drive for extended periods.
- Sufficient vision to safely perform maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
- Knowledge of and ability to safely handle industrial cleaning chemicals and products.
- Ability to travel within Solomon Islands
- Proof of legal right to work in Solomon Islands
- A police background check may be required
