About This Role
This Software Engineer will develop and deliver Handl Health’s electronic healthcare record through high-quality, secure, and maintainable software. The role is a fixed-term contract ending September 30, 2028, with responsibilities across both the Health and Complex Rehabilitation divisions of Handl Group.
Responsibilities
- Translate business requirements for Handl’s electronic healthcare record/case management system into technical delivery, using both hand-written and AI-assisted coding approaches
- Design, develop, and maintain applications and services using technologies adopted by the team, including React, .Net or Node.js, and Medplum FHIR Server, with appropriate use of FHIR standards and APIs
- Work as part of the agile delivery team, following and improving DevOps practices, including source control, automated build and deployment pipelines, environment management, and release processes
- Promote automated testing and appropriate quality controls, building testing into the development lifecycle rather than relying primarily on manual assurance

- Help maintain effective engineering documentation, while keeping documentation proportionate and practical
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the platform, identifying opportunities to simplify the architecture, reduce technical debt, and improve developer productivity
- Work collaboratively with product, clinical, operational, data, and technology colleagues to understand requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions
- Take part in Agile delivery practices including planning sessions, refinements, and demonstrations
- Investigate and support the resolution of production issues, helping identify root causes and ensuring lessons are incorporated into future development, alongside colleagues in IT service and third-party providers
- Develop/maintain an understanding of healthcare informatics standards, particularly FHIR
- Keep knowledge of relevant technologies, software engineering practices, and security principles up to date and recommend improvements where they provide clear value
- Ensure development activities are undertaken in accordance with Handl Group policies and applicable information governance, data protection, cyber security, and regulatory requirements
- Build effective working relationships across the wider technology teams and with relevant suppliers
- Support other reasonable duties including software development activities across the Handl group
- Undertake occasional business travel to Handl group offices, including typically monthly travel to IPRS Group HO (outskirts of Ipswich) or London
