Role Description
The SMT Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Bayan Lepas, responsible for supporting surface-mount technology (SMT) production lines. This role typically involves setting up and operating SMT equipment, verifying machine programs and tooling, and performing changeovers to meet production requirements. The SMT Technician monitors line performance, inspects boards for quality and solder defects, and conducts basic troubleshooting, adjustments, and preventive maintenance on SMT machines. Day-to-day tasks include working closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure efficient workflow, maintaining accurate documentation, and adhering to safety, ESD, and quality standards. The position may also involve assisting with process improvements, supporting new product introductions, and training team members on SMT processes and equipment handling.
Qualifications
- Ability to set up, operate, and monitor SMT production equipment such as pick-and-place machines, solder paste printers, and reflow ovens.
- Experience with PCB assembly processes, component handling, and basic soldering and rework techniques.
- Skills in equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and identifying mechanical or process-related issues on SMT lines.
- Knowledge of quality inspection methods, including visual inspection of boards, use of magnification tools, and understanding of common SMT defects.
- Familiarity with manufacturing documentation, work instructions, and data entry for production tracking and reporting.
- Understanding of ESD controls, safety procedures, and cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environments.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
- Relevant technical certification or diploma in electronics, mechatronics, or a related field; prior experience in SMT or electronics manufacturing is highly beneficial.
