This 2024, the SME Award, from the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC), is being revamped to reach all seven provinces of the country and reward and recognize the effort, growth, innovation, and job creation potential of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and startups in the consolidation of their businesses.

This 2024, the SME Award, from the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC), is renewed to reach the entire country in the 7 provinces and reward and recognize the effort, growth, innovation and potential for job creation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and entrepreneurship in the consolidation of their business model and continuous improvement in their economic, social and environmental performance.
General Conditions For Participation
- Complete the application form that applies for the award.
- Clearly define how you will invest the prize (investment project profile).
- Adhere to the deadlines defined in the call for applications.
- The information provided can be verified by the MEIC at any time.
- Attend the events organized by the organization.
- Participate in the awards ceremony.
- Not to have any debts (arrears) with any State institution.
Application Requirements For SMEs
- Be registered in the Costa Rican Business Information System (SIEC) of the MEIC and have the status of SME up to date.
- Minimum 3 years of operation as a formal company.
- Be a taxpayer of the Ministry of Finance (MH) and be up to date with tax obligations.
- Stay up to date with your INS work risk insurance policy.
- Be up to date with employer obligations to the CCSS at the time of applying.
- It is permitted to meet at least two of the three above requirements.
- Not having won the SME Award in previous editions.
- Complete the application form and all the requested information.
- Description of how you would invest the prize with a value proposition.
Application Requirements For Startups
- Be registered in the Costa Rican Business Information System (SIEC) of the MEIC and have the entrepreneurship status up to date.
- Maximum 2 years of operation.
- Sales of a maximum of 2 years and be a taxpayer of the Ministry of Finance (MH) and be up to date with tax obligations.
- Not having won the Entrepreneurship Award in previous editions.
- Complete the application form and all the requested information.
- Description of how you would invest the prize with a value proposition.
The prize can reach up to $3,000 USD for the SME category and $1,000 USD for the startup category. The deadline to participate is September 20 , 2024. For more information, click here .
