Duties
This position is located in the Facilities Management Division, Mt. Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), serving under the direction of the Metal Shop Supervisor, and will fabricate, install and modify sheet metal articles. Typical Responsibilities:
- Evaluating structures and planning and laying out repair and modification projects.
- Operating various machines involved in sheet metal fabrication and welding.
- Using measuring instruments such as protractors; calipers; snap ring, height, depth, dial, and screw pitch gauges.
- Operating power and hand tools of both sheet metal and welding trades.
- Working on various pieces of machine shop equipment such as lathe, drill, press, shaper and milling machines.

Requirements:
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a shop environment, as well as indoors and outdoors. Sometimes incumbent is required to make repairs and installation in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet; and in close quarters such as manholes or attics. Occasionally incumbent is exposed to the possibility of injury of falling and exposure to the hazard of cuts and burns. Incumbent is subject to physical injury from lifting and holding heavy metal, unpleasant conditions resulting from gas fumes and soot.
Physical Effort: Work assignments require strenuous effort and continuous exertion over long periods of time. Mechanics must climb, bend, stoop, crawl, stand on concrete or metal surfaces, and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods. They frequently lift parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds (9 kilograms). Occasionally, they may lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds (23 kilograms) with the aid of mechanical lifting devices or assistance from workers. Work requires crouching, standing, kneeling and stooping while fabricating, installing, or repairing systems or equipment. Required to work in confined space areas.
