About This Role
This Senior Ruby Developer role involves contributing to a critical digital transformation program for a UK Government client. The position is ideal for an experienced developer who can quickly integrate into an existing Agile delivery team, take ownership of technical delivery, and contribute from day one within a complex public sector environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain applications using Ruby on Rails
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Product Managers, Business Analysts, Designers and Test Engineers
- Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code
- Participate in code reviews and promote development best practices
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering function
- Contribute to technical discussions, solution design and delivery planning
- Mentor and support junior developers where required
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience as a Senior Ruby Developer
- Extensive experience developing applications with Ruby on Rails
- Strong experience with Git and GitHub
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience contributing to code reviews and maintaining engineering standards
- Ability to work effectively within established development teams and deliver at pace
Nice to have:
- Previous experience delivering digital services within the UK public sector or government environments
- Understanding of government digital delivery practices and service standards
- Familiarity with accessibility and security requirements within public sector programmes
- Experience working with GDS (Government Digital Service) standards and design principles

- Contract length: Initial 3-month contract
- Location: Primarily remote with occasional travel (approximately once per month) to UK client sites
