About This Role
This senior-level engineering role involves leading the development of Ruby-based applications and extensions within a global Agile team. The ideal candidate will design, build, and maintain high-quality features for internal and external users, collaborating with various teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes across Ruby services and supporting components
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, refinements, and retrospectives
- Conduct and participate in thorough code reviews while maintaining team coding standards
- Mentor team members and contribute to knowledge sharing
- Collaborate with Product Owners and Domain Experts to clarify requirements, validate solutions, and refine acceptance criteria
- Partner with DevOps/Platform teams on CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and operational runbooks
- Drive continuous improvement through refactoring, increasing test coverage, performance tuning, and technical debt reduction
- Support production incident triage, contribute to postmortems, and implement preventative measures
- Design and develop reliable backend services and APIs
- Contribute to the architecture and evolution of service-oriented and distributed systems
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong proficiency in Ruby
- Strong experience building and operating backend services and APIs using REST and/or GraphQL
- Solid understanding of service-oriented architecture and distributed systems fundamentals
- Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design and SQL optimization
- Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks such as RSpec or Minitest, including factory tools and test-first development
- Familiarity with caching and real-time technologies such as Redis or equivalent
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps
- Strong knowledge of Git and modern code-review workflows, including branching and merge strategies
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed teams across different time zones
