Shaping environmental risk management across Canada is the core of this role, providing technical leadership on complex human health and ecological risk assessment projects. This opportunity suits a Senior Risk Assessment Specialist who can translate scientific evidence into practical strategies that protect people and ecosystems, support sustainable development, and strengthen environmental decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Lead human health risk assessments, ecological risk assessments, exposure assessments, and related environmental health studies that inform confident project decisions
• Deliver senior technical direction in toxicology, exposure assessment, risk characterization, and regulatory interpretation for complex work across Canada
• Direct multidisciplinary teams to integrate environmental science, engineering, hydrogeology, geology, toxicology, and regulatory expertise into clear solutions
• Develop risk management strategies that advance remediation, environmental approvals, impact assessments, and contaminated sites management
• Strengthen client relationships by providing trusted advice throughout the project lifecycle and identifying opportunities to create greater value
• Mentor emerging risk assessment professionals and help build technical excellence across WSP's national risk assessment and toxicology practice

Requirements

• A bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Toxicology, Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Public Health, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline
• Membership or eligibility for membership in a professional organization (e.g., QPRA, R.P.Bio., P.Geo., P.Eng., P.Ag., P.Chem.)
• 10 to 15 years of experience in environmental risk assessment
• Extensive progressive experience conducting and leading human health and ecological risk assessments in environmental consulting (preferred), industry, or government
• Demonstrated expertise in Canadian federal and provincial risk assessment frameworks, technical guidance, and regulatory processes
• Advanced knowledge of toxicology, exposure modelling, fate and transport concepts, risk characterization, and environmental health science
• Proven ability to lead complex technical projects, budgets, schedules, quality reviews, and multidisciplinary teams toward defensible outcomes
• Strong technical writing and review capability, including authorship of senior-level risk assessment reports and clear communication of complex findings
• Experience building client relationships, developing proposals, supporting strategic planning, and pursuing opportunities that grow technical services
• A valid driver's license and the ability to travel periodically to client sites and project locations
