Senior Quality Engineer

About This Role

This role is for experienced Quality Engineers at a Senior and Lead level, joining a dynamic team building solutions for public sector clients. The work involves delivering critical digital services from inception to completion across various projects, utilizing high-performance cloud platforms with Java-based technologies and traditional on-premises infrastructure. As a member of self-empowered, multi-disciplined teams, you will have the freedom to shape your work using the latest industry practices, tools, and technologies, collaborating in a mature Agile environment alongside specialists from other disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Lead by example as a hands-on quality engineering practitioner, contributing to all aspects of software testing
• Design and execute test scenarios, scripts, and test data requirements, including working with external and third-party systems
• Shape and implement effective test automation strategies using industry best practices
• Develop automated tests using technologies such as Java, Scala, .NET, or JavaScript, and advocate for approaches including TDD and BDD
• Collaborate with stakeholders, architects, developers, and product teams to influence solution design and delivery planning
• Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting technical excellence, wellbeing, and professional development
• Provide technical leadership across quality engineering activities, ensuring successful delivery of high-quality solutions (Lead Quality Engineer)
• Define and drive quality engineering strategy, standards, and best practices across projects and programmes (Lead Quality Engineer)
• Champion innovation by identifying and implementing modern testing approaches, tools, and engineering solutions (Lead Quality Engineer)
• Lead collaboration across multiple teams and disciplines to enable seamless integration and delivery (Lead Quality Engineer)
• Act as a senior mentor and role model, developing engineering capability and fostering a culture of continuous learning (Lead Quality Engineer)
• Support the technical and career development of engineers through coaching, performance management, and leadership (Lead Quality Engineer)

Requirements

• Strong understanding of the QA process
• Knowledge in defining and implementing test designs
• Broad experience across test levels
• Hands-on experience using and maintaining automated test frameworks (e.g., Cucumber, JUnit)
• Knowledge of stubbing / mocking frameworks such as Wiremock
• Understanding of Non-Functional testing such as Performance, Security or Accessibility testing
• Experience / Understanding of Git or other version control systems
• Strong experience of iterative / incremental software delivery
• Hands-on experience of all levels of the test automation pyramid
• Experienced in API testing and tools
• Experienced in Functional or System Testing
• Experience using project management tooling (e.g., JIRA)
• Good knowledge of Agile methodologies
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills
• Proactive, looks for areas of improvement

Important Details

• Work format: a mix of company offices, client sites, and remote work from home; fully remote working (100% from home) is not permitted
• Office presence: 40% to 70% of the time if your location is Telford or Hove; once to twice a month in the Telford or Hove office for all other locations (Lead Engineers more frequently)

Security Clearance

• It is a requirement to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance
• To obtain SC clearance, the successful applicant must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 5 years, along with other criteria and requirements
• Some posts are restricted to sole UK Nationals for security reasons
