Senior Payroll Specialist - Payroll

The Payroll Specialist, Senior is a self-starter who embraces change, works well under pressure, and thrives in a fast-paced, innovative, and challenging environment within the Payroll team. This position provides cross-training and guidance to other payroll staff, requiring specialized knowledge in payroll regulations and standards, and a high level of independence.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and delegate daily unit tasks to ensure completion within established time frames
• Coordinate and participate in all work aspects of the assigned functional area
• Perform regular processing of payroll activities
• Audit, input, and maintain payroll and new hire data
• Run interfaces
• Ensure processing is completed within the required time frame
• Prepare, process, and audit adjustments, benefits deductions, garnishment deductions, corrections, reversals, stop payments, cancellations, manual checks, retroactive changes, final paychecks, etc., in accordance with policy and local, state, and federal laws
• Utilize various automated business management systems in processing payroll actions, such as setting up deductions, new hires, separations, direct deposit, and tax withholding
• Process payroll system calculations for pre-auditing of payroll data
• Audit and review payroll registers for accuracy, completeness, and conformance with all rules and regulations
• Reconcile, balance, and close payroll runs
• Reconcile and balance payroll
• Assist management with training, testing, and validating automated payroll systems
• Research and resolve payroll accounting discrepancies and issues
• Take corrective action as needed

Requirements

• Associate

's degree with coursework in Accounting or Business

• Three (3) years' recent, relevant, and progressively responsible payroll accounting experience
• Two (2) years of direct work experience and one (1) year of supplemental work experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory standards and requirements governing payroll reporting such as processing, withholdings, and distribution in an integrated automated business systems environment
• Initiative and independent judgment in researching and reporting on accounting discrepancies and resolving client/customer issues with minimal supervisory review
