Senior Manager, Senior Counsel - Enterprise Data Business Counsel

About This Role

This role supports the Enterprise Data organization, which is central to Capital One's data-driven decision-making and customer products. The position involves influencing data strategy, navigating regulatory landscapes, and balancing legal compliance with technological innovation, particularly in AI and data. You will be part of a legal team supporting technology, data, cyber, and AI business teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, delivering proactive, business-focused legal advice and strategic counsel on key data initiatives
• Evaluate and mitigate legal, operational, and regulatory risks associated with data collection, retention, sharing, and governance, including the use of AI
• Partner closely with a broad range of stakeholders, including Risk, Compliance, and Legal colleagues to design innovative solutions to business problems
• Apply complex data, privacy, and emerging technology and AI laws and standards to novel data use cases

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
• Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
• At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel

Nice to have:

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or Data Science
• 2+ years experience with AI and product development
• Experience providing legal advice related to US and global privacy regulations
• Experience providing legal advice related to Section 1033 of the Dodd-Frank Act
• 5+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
