Senior Java Backend Developer

Design, build and evolve secure, scalable and reusable Java backend services for enterprise-grade transaction processing and business-critical applications.

The role focuses on designing and implementing integrations between complex enterprise systems, building resilient APIs and supporting high-volume transactional platforms. The developer will collaborate closely with solution architects, technical leads, business analysts, QA engineers and other development teams.

This is a senior hands-on engineering role and does not include people-management responsibilities.

Seniority & Experience

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on backend development experience with Java.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on development experience with Spring Boot.
• Minimum 3 years of experience designing and implementing REST APIs and system-to-system integrations.
• Minimum 2 years of practical experience with Oracle Database and SQL; interaction with PL/SQL components is expected where relevant.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with messaging or event-driven solutions, preferably Apache Kafka.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Proven experience delivering business-critical enterprise applications through the full software delivery lifecycle.
• Experience in banking, financial services or another highly regulated industry is strongly preferred.

Technical Requirements

Backend Development

• Strong Java 17+ development experience.
• Solid Spring Boot expertise.
• Experience designing and developing scalable REST APIs.
• Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns.
• Experience working with JSON, XML and SOAP-based integrations.
• Experience with asynchronous and event-driven architectures.
• Knowledge of software design principles and clean code practices.

Databases

• Oracle Database experience.
• Strong SQL knowledge.
• Experience working with PL/SQL components.
• Understanding of database performance optimization and troubleshooting.

Messaging & Integration

• Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
• Experience building and maintaining distributed systems.
• Understanding of synchronous and asynchronous communication patterns.

Cloud-Native Delivery & DevOps

• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Actions or equivalent tooling.
• Experience with Gradle, Git workflows and shell scripting.
• Ability to troubleshoot deployment, configuration and runtime issues in non-production environments.

Observability

• Working knowledge of structured logging, metrics, tracing and operational diagnostics.
• Practical exposure to at least two of the following:
• ELK Stack
• OpenTelemetry
• Prometheus
• Grafana

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend applications and services using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
• Design and implement REST APIs and integrations using JSON, XML and SOAP where required.
• Contribute to reusable integration capabilities and avoid application-specific point-to-point solutions where a generic service is appropriate.
• Design and implement synchronous, asynchronous and event-driven interaction patterns based on solution needs.
• Integrate applications using Apache Kafka or equivalent enterprise messaging platforms.
• Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms using OAuth 2.0, JWT and enterprise access-management solutions.
• Build automated unit and component tests using JUnit, Mockito or equivalent frameworks.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to clean code, security, performance and engineering-quality standards.
• Containerize applications and support delivery through Docker and OpenShift/Kubernetes-based platforms.
• Implement logging, metrics and tracing aligned with organizational observability standards.
• Identify and resolve scalability, reliability and performance issues during development and testing.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, API specifications and implementation notes.
• Use enterprise-approved AI tools responsibly to improve development, testing and documentation productivity while validating all generated output.

Banking & Regulated Industry Experience

• Previous delivery experience in banking, financial services, lending, customer-data, core systems or enterprise integration environments is considered a strong advantage.
• Understanding of security, auditability, data protection, traceability and controlled delivery practices in regulated environments.
• Ability to work with business-critical systems where reliability, backward compatibility and controlled change are essential.

AI & Modern Engineering Practices

• Practical use of Microsoft Copilot or another enterprise-approved generative AI assistant for code exploration, test generation, documentation, refactoring support or troubleshooting.
• Ability to review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, maintainability and alignment with internal standards.
• Awareness of confidentiality, data-classification and safe-use constraints when working with AI tools.
