Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Project Manager to support a major Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI 2.0) transformation program within a large electric utility environment. This role will lead all phases of the project lifecycle and System Integrator (SI) engagement, including pre-planning, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure.
The ideal candidate combines large-scale IT program management, AMI/smart grid experience, IT infrastructure knowledge, financial management, resource planning, solution blueprinting, and vendor management . This is a hands-on leadership position requiring someone who can manage the overall program while personally executing critical PM deliverables and bridging business requirements with complex technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead project activities across the full lifecycle, including planning, execution, monitoring, implementation, and closure .
- Coordinate System Integrator activities across technical and business workstreams.
- Facilitate IT business process mapping and requirements clarification to align functional needs with technical delivery.
- Prepare and manage financial reporting for AMI 2.0 releases, including expenditures, budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis .
- Develop comprehensive resource plans based on technical scope, required roles, skill sets, effort, and cost estimates.
- Coordinate resources across integration, data, infrastructure, and testing workstreams.
- Support development and refinement of the technical solution blueprint , including scope, schedule, budget, infrastructure, data flows, and system interfaces.
- Plan and coordinate the Planning & Analyze phases , including solution-design validation and technical feasibility reviews.
- Prepare technical teams for Build activities, including environment readiness, development sequencing, testing strategy, and deployment rollout .
- Coordinate cross-functional business and technical teams to maintain alignment with project milestones and deliverables.
- Track project scope against baseline requirements and maintain requirements-to-design-to-delivery traceability .
- Manage the change-control process , documenting changes and evaluating schedule, cost, resource, and technical impacts.
- Identify project risks and opportunities and develop appropriate corrective actions.
- Escalate significant risks, issues, dependencies, and scope changes to senior leadership.
- Maintain project and financial documentation to support audit and compliance requirements .
- Support procurement activities, vendor management, and IT contract negotiations .
- Personally execute day-to-day project management deliverables while providing leadership and coordination across the broader program.

Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of large-scale IT program/project management experience within utilities or another regulated industry.
- Experience with AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure), smart grid, or large electric utility technology/infrastructure programs .
- AMI 1.0 or AMI 2.0 experience strongly preferred , with at least some AMI 1.0 exposure expected.
- Experience managing large, complex IT programs from planning through implementation.
- Strong experience with resource planning, solution blueprinting, implementation planning, and end-to-end delivery management .
- Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure with the ability to understand the complete technical landscape and identify delivery gaps.
- Experience coordinating technical workstreams involving infrastructure, integrations, data, environments, and testing .
- Experience with project financial management, including budgets, expenditures, forecasts, and variance analysis .
- Strong risk, issue, dependency, scope, and change management experience.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional business and technical teams.
- Strong understanding of the relationship between business requirements and technical solutions .
- Excellent communication, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to quickly integrate into a large, fast-moving program and deliver with an appropriate level of direction.
- Ability to personally execute detailed PM responsibilities rather than functioning solely as a high-level program leader.
- Adaptable, receptive to feedback, and comfortable taking ownership of additional responsibilities as program needs evolve.
