About the role

Riot Games was established in 2006 by entrepreneurial gamers who believe that player-focused game development can result in great games. In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends to critical and player acclaim. As the most played video game in the world, over 100 million play every month. Players form the foundation of our community and it’s for them that we continue to evolve and improve the League of Legends experience.

We’re looking for humble but ambitious, razor-sharp professionals who can teach us a thing or two. We promise to return the favor. Like us, you take play seriously; you’re passionate about games. We embrace those who see things differently, aren’t afraid to experiment, and who have a healthy disregard for constraints.

That's where you come in.

As a Game Designer, you will design, tweak, and optimize the player experience. Your analytical skills, player insight, and creativity help craft in- and out-of-game experiences that engage and surprise players. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and work with every tool at hand to create and iterate player-focused designs that will delight millions around the world.

This role sits at the intersection of narrative design, implementation thinking, prototyping, and player experience craft. You will work closely with design, art, engineering, audio, VFX, UI, and production to develop scalable, high-quality narrative delivery that feels clear, immersive, and natural to players.

  • Translate story goals, tone, and thematic direction into strong player-facing presentation
  • Build delivery strategies for different types of narrative content
  • Prototype and validate presentation ideas to test readability, emotional clarity, and production viability
  • Partner cross-functionally to plan and support the implementation of narrative content in-game
  • Help identify production needs, dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs for narrative presentation work
  • Review integrated content in-game and improve pacing, clarity, immersion, and overall player experience
  • Capture learnings and help evolve reusable approaches for narrative delivery

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional experience in narrative design, game design, implementation design, or a related discipline
  • Deep understanding of interactive narrative and how it connects to gameplay and systems
  • Experience prototyping and validating narrative or player-facing design ideas in-game
  • Strong game design instincts and comfort shaping narrative through interactive experiences
  • Experience collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams across multiple stages of development
  • Comfort working in ambiguous, evolving development environments
  • Good understanding of Riot's products

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in a lead or highly ownership-driven narrative presentation, implementation, or systems-facing narrative role
  • Experience working with tools or runtime narrative delivery
  • Strong instincts for scalable narrative delivery under production constraints
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
