Metal Construction is a proudly New Zealand-owned and operated engineering and fabrication business with more than 70 years of experience.
We specialise in quality architectural and structural metalwork, including balustrades, handrails, bespoke metalwork, sheet metal, lift reveals, light structural steel and general engineering.
We're growing our Wellington team and have two opportunities available
1. Senior Fabricator
We're looking for an experienced Senior Fabricator who combines excellent technical skills with the ability to lead by example.
This is a hands-on role where you'll fabricate while taking greater ownership of jobs, coordinating work and supporting other members of the team.
Key responsibilities:
- Advanced fabrication, welding and assembly
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
- Planning and coordinating fabrication jobs
- Troubleshooting technical and fabrication issues
- Mentoring junior fabricators and apprentices
- Maintaining high standards of quality and Health & Safety
- Working with management, detailers and the installation team
What you'll bring:
- 5+ years' metal fabrication or engineering experience
- Relevant trade qualification preferred
- Strong fabrication and welding skills
- Experience with stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Leadership, mentoring or training experience
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Full NZ driver licence
2. Fabricator / Installer
We're also looking for a skilled Fabricator / Installer who enjoys variety and wants to combine workshop fabrication with site installation.
You'll help manufacture and install our products, giving you the opportunity to see projects through from fabrication to completion.
Key responsibilities:
- Fabricating metal components to drawings and specifications
- Welding, cutting, drilling, grinding and finishing
- Fabricating and installing balustrades, handrails and architectural metalwork
- Accurately measuring projects on site
- Reading plans and shop drawings
- Using fabrication equipment, power tools and hand tools
- Completing quality and Health & Safety requirements
What you'll bring:
- 3+ years' fabrication, engineering, aluminium joinery or similar experience
- Good practical fabrication and site installation skills
- Confidence reading plans and technical drawings
- Good site-measuring and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Good communication and time-management skills
- Full NZ driver licence
Experience with balustrades, handrails and architectural metalwork would be an advantage.
