The Flatpack Co
🌊 Who we are
We're The Flatpack Co, and we're changing the way Kiwis sleep. Buying a good bed in New Zealand has always been harder and more expensive than it has to be: a showroom, a pushy salesperson, and paying thousands more than you should for something you sleep on every night. That's a real problem, and we're solving it. We design our own beds and mattresses and sell them online, without the showroom markups, helping Kiwis save thousands on a genuinely good bed.
It's working. In just a few short years we've already helped more than 20,000 Kiwis sleep better, and save thousands doing it. The thing we're proudest of is our reviews, and the impact behind them: go read a few, people really do love what we make.
We're a small, supportive, tight-knit team: seven of us, mostly in our twenties. We split our time between working from home and our HQ in the heart of Mount Maunganui, less than a block from the beach, which means proper coffee strolls and the odd surf check at lunch when the waves are good. On a real mission, without taking ourselves too seriously.
🎯 The role
We're looking for someone with a gift for crafting online experiences that just make sense: pages that make choosing a bed easy, emails that arrive at the right moment, details that build trust, and the numbers that prove it's working.
Our brand has grown 100%+ two years running, and honestly, our website hasn't kept up at all. It's overdue for its next level, and that's your opportunity: put your stamp on how a fast-growing Kiwi brand looks, sounds and feels online. The pages, the emails, the imagery, the messaging. Real ownership, plenty of autonomy, and your changes go live fast. And it's a growth seat in the fullest sense: growing our revenue, and growing the number of Kiwis we help to a better night's sleep.
And here's the real challenge, the fun one. Kiwis are used to walking into a bed shop, lying on the mattress and getting the full consultation. Our job is to make choosing a bed online feel even better than that: clearer information, better imagery, quizzes, comparisons, phone consultations, whatever gets someone feeling sure about a bed they've never laid on. Crack that and you've helped us change the way Kiwis shop forever. And the timing is perfect, because we're evolving our brand and messaging right now (a branding agency is joining us for the next chapter), so the foundations are yours to help shape.
You'd work directly with our founders and a CEO who's spent 15+ years in ecommerce, and you'd have every resource you could ask for: an email marketing agency, web developers, CRO and branding agencies, freelancers, and our in-house AI tools. What we don't have yet is the person who pulls it all together and leads the way. Plenty of support, zero committees: if you make it better, it ships.
🛠️ What you'll be doing
🧠 What we're looking for
Someone who blends design, copy, strategy and customer empathy, and who's done it before. You've helped lay the foundations of a great brand experience, or driven real conversion gains, and ideally both. You can point to the results and tell us how you got them.
You're probably already:
On the AI point: we mean it. We're building our own custom AI infrastructure for web design, copy and analytics from the ground up, in-house. The whole industry is changing fast, and this seat sits right at the edge of it: you'd be learning the new way of working alongside the people building the tools, and picking up the skills every brand will soon be hunting for. If you're already playing with AI tools and keen to go a lot deeper, we'll hand you the kit.
And most importantly: you get into our customers' heads. You can feel when something will resonate and when it will confuse, and you care about getting it right for them.
🚫 Probably not the one for you if…
📍 Where
Mount Maunganui, ideally, and if you're not local, we'll help you relocate to the beach. If you live in Auckland and can be at the Mount two to three days a week, that can potentially work too.
🏄 Why you'll love it here
💰 Salary
$100,000–$120,000 + our company profit-share, plus relocation support if you're moving. And honestly: for the right person, we're happy to pay more. We'd rather pay properly for the best than settle.
👉 How to apply
Email careers@theflatpack.co.nz with the subject line "Senior Ecommerce & CRO Manager - [your name]", and include:
What happens next: we review everything, then it's a relaxed 20-minute chat, and if we both like where it's heading, a paid test project: a real section or landing-page brief, with our brand kit and our AI tools, properly paid whatever the outcome. We'd rather pay you for one real job than interview you four times.
One heads-up: we can't consider applications without work & past results to look at. Show us what you've made happen! 👀
