Senior Backup Engineer:
(Data Protection & Cyber Resiliency Strategies)
Project Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Backup Engineer (Contractor) to lead the design, implementation, and management of enterprise backup solutions. You will act as the technical Subject Matter Expert for data protection and restore strategies with a strong focus on cyber resiliency, business continuity, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:

Architect, deploy, and manage backup and recovery solutions across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud platforms.

Manage and optimize enterprise Data Protection platforms such as Cohesity and Dell Data Domain.

Configure and manage backup solutions for Microsoft 365 environments.

Automate backup operations and reporting using Ansible, PowerShell, Python, or Bash.

Define and maintain backup/retention policies ensuring alignment with compliance frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA, and SOX.

Perform capacity planning, health monitoring, upgrades, and patching of the backup infrastructure.

Collaborate with security/infrastructure teams to develop and test Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) strategies.

Serve as technical advisor for projects involving data protection or infrastructure transformation.

Provide documentation for audits, compliance reporting, and internal knowledge base.
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

6+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise backup platforms (e.g., Cohesity, Dell EMC Data Domain).

3+ years in designing and implementing scalable backup and DR solutions.

Expertise in data backup, restore, replication, and cyber-resiliency frameworks.

Strong scripting and automation skills using Ansible, PowerShell, Python, or Bash.

Solid understanding of virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).

Experience in executing and supporting DR testing and failover scenarios.
Nice to Have:

Experience with additional backup tools like Rubrik, Commvault.

Familiarity with VMware, Windows, Unix/Linux, and database backup strategies.

Exposure to DevOps practices and tools such as ServiceNow.

Understanding of backup security best practices including encryption, immutable storage, and air-gapped backups.
