Our Challenge:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Azure FinOps & Cloud Optimization Consultant to drive cost optimization, governance, automation, and financial accountability across a large Microsoft Azure estate.

The role will focus on identifying, implementing, and measuring sustainable cost optimization opportunities across Azure Compute, Storage, Networking, Databases, Microsoft Fabric, Azure AI/OpenAI, analytics platforms, and other PaaS services .

This is a hands-on consulting role working closely with Microsoft, Enterprise / LOB Cloud/Infrastructure teams, application owners, engineering teams, Finance, and internal stakeholders to establish practical FinOps processes that can be operated by internal teams.

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors.

In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Piscataway, NJ/ King of Prussia, PA is $120K-$130K /year & benefits (see below).

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement automation to reduce unnecessary Azure consumption, including start/stop schedules, scale-up/scale-down rules, cleanup of unused resources, budget alerts, anomaly alerts, and optimization reporting.
  • Automation should use appropriate technologies such as Azure Automation, Functions, Logic Apps, PowerShell, Azure CLI, Azure Resource Graph, Azure Policy, Terraform/Bicep, and APIs, with approvals, exclusions, logging, and operational guardrails.
  • Microsoft Fabric & AI Optimization
  • Partner with Data, Analytics, and AI teams to manage cost and capacity for Microsoft Fabric and Azure AI/OpenAI services, including capacity sizing, scheduling, utilization monitoring, token/model usage analysis, quotas, budgets, and cost-efficient architecture recommendations.
  • Microsoft Partnership & Best Practices
  • Work directly with Microsoft Azure and FinOps specialists to review the Azure estate against best practices, validate recommendations, evaluate new pricing/cost-management capabilities, and track agreed actions through to measurable implementation outcomes.
  • FinOps Platform Implementation

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of Cloud/Infrastructure experience with strong Microsoft Azure expertise.
  • 3+ years of hands-on FinOps / Cloud Cost Optimization experience.
  • Strong understanding of Azure Cost Management, pricing, consumption models, and large multi-subscription environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure Compute, Storage, Networking, Databases, PaaS services, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure AI/OpenAI cost management.
  • Automation experience using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Azure Resource Graph, Azure Policy, Terraform/Bicep, APIs, or similar tools.
  • Experience with automated scaling, resource scheduling, Reservations, Savings Plans, Azure Hybrid Benefit, and commitment optimization.
  • Experience implementing or operating a FinOps / Cloud Cost Management platform.
  • Ability to work effectively with Microsoft, engineering teams, Finance, application owners, and senior stakeholders.
  • FinOps certification or equivalent practical experience is preferred.

The consultant will be expected to deliver:

  • Azure FinOps assessment and optimization roadmap.
  • Azure cost baseline and prioritized optimization backlog.
  • Implementation and tracking of measurable cost savings.
  • Automated scaling, scheduling, and resource optimization framework.
  • Microsoft Fabric and Azure AI/OpenAI cost optimization frameworks.
  • Reservation/Savings Plan and commitment optimization recommendations.
  • Operationalized FinOps platform with dashboards, alerts, reports, runbooks, and knowledge transfer.
