About This Role
This senior API developer role is a fixed-term opportunity to join the Core Ledger Replacement domain, modernising lending technology to support innovative customer experiences and create a lasting impact for New Zealanders. The role involves leading complex technical delivery and contributing to a significant, multi-year transformation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of complex features, systems, or technical initiatives, balancing speed, quality, and alignment with strategic goals
- Participate in the on-call roster and provide production support within your domain, helping maintain reliability and respond to incidents effectively
- Apply advanced engineering knowledge to design and build robust, scalable systems, making technical decisions that account for long-term sustainability and operational impact
- Navigate ambiguity, shape problem definitions, and propose practical, effective solutions
- Build strong relationships and influence technical direction using clear communication, structured thinking, and constructive challenge
- Provide technical mentorship and support the growth of others through coaching, feedback, and knowledge sharing
Requirements
- Strong software engineering experience
- Deep expertise in one or more of the following technologies: Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Kafka, microservices, Kubernetes, and AWS
- Proven track record of leading complex technical delivery across systems and teams
- Ownership of large-scale features or platforms from design and development through to deployment, production support, and continuous improvement
- Strategic problem solver who can make sound trade-offs in ambiguous environments, balancing technical decisions with business outcomes
- Clear communicator and collaborative leader who builds trust across teams
- Supports an inclusive engineering culture
- Helps grow others through coaching, mentoring, pairing, and knowledge sharing
