Security Engineer

About This Role

This security engineering role focuses on creating and maintaining the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers, specifically for the Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) platform. You will work with network equipment, monitor systems for attacks, and collaborate with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities, with the mission of making GKE the most secure managed Kubernetes platform.

Responsibilities

• Work with network equipment
• Actively monitor systems for attacks and intrusions
• Work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities
• Focus on security for components of systems, such as client devices, networking equipment, and server infrastructure
• Address threats from all sources
• Secure and harden the Kubernetes and GKE service using a risk-based approach
• Strategically drive the team to achieve overall security
• Lead and scale the GKE Platform Security team

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
• 8 years of experience with security assessments or security design reviews or threat modeling
• 8 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security, and security protocols
• 8 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages
• 2 years of experience working with Kubernetes

Nice to have:

• Contributed to open source software
