About the role

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-09. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Serves as a buffer and acts as liaison between the Deputies and subordinate offices, and keeps them informed of the Deputies’ views on past or current matters and schedules requested meetings by members of staff.
  • Personally responds to inquiries and problems of an administrative nature not requiring a technical knowledge.
  • Screens all telephone calls and visitors, answering most non-technical questions and completing most business involving established policy or routine matters without referring people to the Deputies.
  • Sets up and arranges meetings and conferences held by the Deputies.
  • Screens and reviews all correspondence prepared for the Deputies signature for clarity, completeness of reply, grammatical and procedural correctness, and conformance to the Deputies style.
  • Receives and reviews all incoming mail, replies to non-technical correspondence not requiring the Deputies’ involving established policy, routes matters requiring action by other staff members, searches files for information to be used in replies; maintains and updates, maintains and updates case folders for regular usage, etc.
  • On own initiative, recommends changes in Tax Exempt and Government Entities’ administrative policies and procedures.
  • Produces a variety of written documents utilizing varied and advanced word processing software functions, working from handwritten draft, edited copy, or electronic files created by another staff member.
  • Prepares and maintains attorney time and attendance using the WebSETR database system.
  • Schedules and makes all necessary travel and lodging arrangements for the Deputy’s staff as well as for individuals outside the office as directed.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcment:

GS-07: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: .

The experience may have been gained in the public, private sector, or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

Typing Proficiency: A typing proficiency of 40 words per minute with no more than three errors is required. Proof of an acceptable typing speed must be submitted with the application in one of the following ways: 1) SF-50, "Notification of Personnel Action", which shows Federal employment in a "typing", "office automation" or stenography" position; or 2) A current notice of test results (from an appropriate testing authority) based on a five-minute typing test which includes words per minute and error rate ; or 3) Self certify by indicating typing speed on application.
