About This Role
Supporting the analytical development and characterization of biologic molecules is the core of this scientist role at AbbVie Bioresearch Center. The position requires a solid understanding of protein structure, post-translational modifications (PTMs), analytical method development, and biophysical characterization, and suits a candidate with strong hands-on experience in various chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques.
Responsibilities
- Perform analytical characterization of proteins and biologics using HPLC, UPLC, LC-MS, and AKTA chromatography systems
- Conduct intact protein mass analysis, reduced mass analysis, and peptide mapping to evaluate protein identity, structure, and modifications
- Develop, optimize, and execute analytical methods for protein characterization and assessment
- Perform protein purification and fractionation using chromatography techniques, including AKTA systems
- Identify and characterize post-translational modifications (PTMs) and other protein-related attributes
- Support biophysical characterization using techniques such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and spectroscopy
- Design and execute experiments to investigate protein structure, stability, and analytical properties
- Analyze and interpret complex analytical data, troubleshoot technical issues, and communicate scientific findings
- Maintain accurate experimental records using Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN)
- Prepare technical reports, analytical characterization summaries, and scientific presentations
- Collaborate with cross-functional analytical development and research teams
- Support additional analytical studies involving vibrational spectroscopy and metabolomics, as required
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline with approximately 5+ years of relevant experience
- Master's degree in a related scientific discipline with approximately 2+ years of relevant experience
- Hands-on experience in HPLC/UPLC chromatography and analytical method development
- Experience with LC-MS for protein characterization, including intact mass, reduced mass, or peptide mapping
- Knowledge of protein structure, protein chemistry, and post-translational modifications
- Experience with AKTA chromatography and protein fractionation
- Strong analytical troubleshooting, experimental design, data interpretation, and technical writing skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively

- Experience with capillary electrophoresis (CE) for protein analysis
