School Counselor

About This Role

This faith-driven School Counselor role provides individual counseling to students, helping them navigate academic, personal, social, and family concerns. The position involves working with students from preschool through sixth grade on various developmental topics.

Responsibilities

• Respond to daily issues that arise within the school, including crisis response if necessary
• Plan "Boy Talk"; plan and/or lead "Girl Talk" (Discipleship-focused small group time) for 4th - 6th grade
• Prepare and present classroom guidance lessons as needed
• Conduct Safe Touch Talks for grades PS - 2nd grade
• Include topics such as kindness, making and keeping friends, making wise choices, and study skills, as requested by classroom teachers
• Consult with school administration to identify and resolve student issues, needs, and problems
• Consult with teachers to provide strategies to help students who are struggling academically, behaviorally, and emotionally, and give support to the teacher
• Work with parents to help foster communication between home and school
• Write and oversee behavior meditation plans, including collaborating with teachers and families to create the plan, follow up with the student, and reassessment
• Plan and present the Bullying Chapel

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Psychology, School Counseling or a related field
• Background check
• Has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
• Integrity, credibility, and a commitment to CHCS’s mission
• Strong understanding of instructional strategies and student engagement techniques
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
• A personal commitment to the Christian faith and the ability to integrate faith into academic support

Important Details

• Schedule: 24 - 32 hours over 3-4 days a week
• Evaluation: Annually in the Spring
• Supervisor: Principal
