School Counselor

About This Role

Supporting students in their academic, college/career, and personal development is the core of this school counseling role. The position involves implementing a comprehensive counseling program, providing classroom instruction, and coordinating essential student plans and testing. It suits a counselor who can effectively collaborate with students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Implement a comprehensive school counseling program to support students in academics, college/career, and meeting EDP requirements
• Provide classroom instruction aligned with the comprehensive school counseling program
• Coordinate 504 plans and testing (M-Step, PSAT) for the building
• Counsel students during times of stress, anxiety, and transition; provide referrals to outside resources as appropriate
• Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, and administrators to create equitable plans to increase student opportunity and success
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Master's Degree in Education with a valid Michigan School Counselor License or a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a School Counselor (NT) Endorsement
• Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate effectively and relate positively with students, parents, staff, and the community
• Must be able to work a non-traditional schedule as needed
