School Counselor

About This Role

Supporting the academic, personal, and social development of students from PreK to 12th grade is the main focus of this school counselor position. The role involves implementing guidance curriculum, providing individual and group counseling, and collaborating with staff and parents to foster a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Implement the district-adopted Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance Curriculum (CCBG)
• Provide classroom and small group developmental activities (e.g., self-esteem, problem-solving, decision making)
• Coordinate and facilitate the Child Study Team and the Multi Disciplinary Conference Team (MDC)
• Facilitate the introduction of students to the school community
• Help students evaluate career interests and choices
• Provide counseling for children on an individual basis to remediate behavioral, academic, and personal student concerns
• Help to maintain student records and protect their confidentiality
• Promote parents
• Help resolve student-teacher conflicts
• Provide in-service training as needed
• Consult about class interaction, student needs, and staff relationships
• Aid in the interpretation of test results to students, parents and teachers
• Take an active role in interpreting the school
• Work closely with the school nurse in reporting cases of suspected child abuse
• Facilitate special interest programs as needed, such as parenting groups and/or support groups
• Other duties as may be assigned by the site administrator and/or the Director of Exceptional Student Services

Requirements

• Valid Arizona Department of Education School Counselor, PreK-12 certificate
• Degree required in relevant field of study
• Prior relevant work experience
