Job Description General Purpose of Job :

Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician. Responsible for the administration of quality Ultrasound examinations and patient information.

Essential Duties This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Performs cardiac and vascular procedures for the evaluation of cardiac and vascular disease, in the diagnostics department or other areas of the hospital as needed.
  • Explains procedure to patient and answers questions or concerns.
  • Obtains pertinent medical history prior to exam.
  • Obtains appropriate data and calculations and prepares data for interpreting physician.
  • Perform imaging in PACS environment including digitizing films for viewing, interpretation and storage on PACS.
  • When necessary, contacts and consults with ordering physician to assure appropriateness of procedure ordered, as well as provide immediate results when requested by ordering physician.
  • Maintains knowledge of current diagnostic techniques and procedures.
  • Transports patients.

Job Requirements General Requirements

  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA)

Work Experience

  • One year of Cardiac and Vascular Sonography experience.

Education

  • Completion of an approved ultrasound program specializing in Cardiac Sonography

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing Echocardiograms, Transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), Bubble Studies, Contrast administration/imaging and assisting with advanced procedures such as stress echos, as applicable.
  • Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, pathology, and hemodynamics, with the ability to apply this knowledge to clinical assessments.
  • Skilled in operating ultrasound and Doppler equipment to obtain high-quality images and accurate data for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Ability to recognize and document abnormal cardiac findings and effectively communicate preliminary observations to the interpreting physician.
  • Position requires self-discipline.

  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Basic knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients serviced in their assigned service area as related to the principal duties and responsibilities of the position. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.
  • One (1) year experience Echo-Carotid-Arterial-Venous-Stress Echo-TEE, preferred.
