About This Role
The Scala Developer designs, develops, and maintains scalable, high-performance backend applications. This role is for a skilled developer with strong programming fundamentals, hands-on experience with Scala, and a good understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and modern software development practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend applications using Scala
- Write clean, efficient, reusable, and maintainable code following best practices
- Build and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services
- Work with functional programming concepts, concurrency, and asynchronous processing
- Develop and maintain applications using distributed systems and microservices architectures
- Work with databases, SQL queries, and data processing pipelines
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, QA engineers, and other developers to deliver business requirements
- Participate in code reviews, debugging, performance optimization, and production issue resolution
- Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements
- 4–7 years of experience in software development, with strong hands-on Scala experience
- Strong understanding of object-oriented and functional programming concepts
- Experience with Scala libraries, collections, Futures, and asynchronous programming
- Good knowledge of Java or JVM internals
- Experience developing REST APIs, microservices, and backend applications
- Proficiency in SQL and relational databases
- Familiarity with Git, Maven or SBT, and build automation tools
- Experience with unit testing frameworks and automated testing practices
- Understanding of multithreading, concurrency, data structures, and algorithms
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Nice to have:
- Experience with Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, or Akka
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases and event-driven architecture
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
