Safety Specialist

About This Role

Coordinating and implementing the field safety program for construction projects is the core of this role. The Safety Specialist conducts inspections, audits, and new hire orientations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies. This position supports field leadership in safety program implementation and assists in accident investigations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects
• Conduct regular walk-through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and Company policies
• Conduct safety audits on assigned projects by identifying, documenting and recommending abatement of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions to internal and external clients
• Utilize internal safety management systems to document findings and to track abatement techniques and closure
• Conduct project-specific new hire orientation and oversee drug and alcohol policy compliance
• Monitor the implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractors’ safety programs
• Attend project pre-planning, progress and other relevant project-related meetings to discuss safety-related matters
• Support field leadership in the implementation of the safety program specifics, such as meetings, committees and related activities
• Chair the project safety committee
• Assist in the investigation of project-related accidents
• Confer with supervisor to determine root cause and discuss recommendations for changes in the work processes to eliminate recurrence
• Coordinate with injured employees and clinics to ensure that the worker attends treatment and is returned to work at some capacity in a timely manner
• Compile progress summary reports of injuries for supervisor
• Monitor site safety incentive program

Requirements

• Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner
• Communications skills, verbal and written
• Proficiency in MS Office
• Knowledge of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company safety regulations
• Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures
• Ability to build relationships with team members that transcend a project
• Proficiency in required construction technology
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally
• 0-2 years construction or related experience (Required)
