Safety and Occupational Health Specialist

Duties

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

• Administer or assist in the administration of Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (OSHE) programs (e.g., Mishap Investigation and Reporting, Industrial Hygiene, Personal Protective Equipment, Electrical Safety, Ergonomics, Confined Space Entry, Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) oversight, Material and Weight Handling Equipment, Medical Surveillance, Indoor Air Quality, Reproductive Hazards, Ionizing and Non-Ionizing Radiation oversight, Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection, Hearing Conservation, Sight Conservation, Blood borne Pathogens, or similar programs) to support a command and protect personnel and property.
• Deliver safety education training programs to address the needs identified through established requirements, inspections, and evaluations.
• Develop educational and promotional material to raise awareness of safety and occupational health issues.
• Investigate mishaps on personnel injuries and close-calls to prevent reoccurrence.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Analyzing accident and injury reports to develop recommendations for eliminating or controlling hazards detected in the workplace; 2) Providing informal instruction to work leaders and employees to increase public awareness; 3) Applying safety and occupational health requirements to advise on technical matters; 4) Performing inspections to identify potential hazards. OR
Have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of this position or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
