Duties
In this position, you will serve on an IMAT command staff as the Safety Officer.
When deployed, the incumbent receives safety and health technical direction from FEMA's Health and Medical Readiness (SHMR) Division and administratively reports to the Lead Disaster Safety Officer at a disaster, and/or depending on the incident the disaster Federal Coordinating Officer as a representative of SHMR or to the disaster IMAT Team Leader. The IMAT Safety Officer is a member of a Safety Cadre that serves as the senior technical advisor to the Federal Coordinating Officer (FCO) on all occupational safety and health concerns affecting and arising from an incident. The incumbent is responsible for working within the criteria, requirements and limits of the FEMA Qualification System (FQS) to include implementing FEMA safety and health programs, developing and recommending measures to ensure the safety of personnel assigned to the incident, assess and/or anticipate hazardous and unsafe situations and other duties as assigned.
When not deployed, the incumbent reports to the IMAT Team Leader and receives technical direction and coordination from SHMR and will participate with SHMR in exercises at the national regional, and state levels and participates in training as required by the position. Work with SHMR to provide input for the development of execution and documentation functions and plans that affect critical aspects of FEMA's mission, operational responses and programs. Participate in development of regional catastrophic planning for all-hazard responses and assist in the development of plans, goals, and objectives for new initiatives and programs within the limits of FQS criteria, requirements and limits.
