About This Role
This engineering role focuses on building high-performance, reliable, and low-latency backend and infrastructure components for a tech platform. The Rust Engineer will design, implement, test, and maintain core services, working closely with product, infrastructure, and security teams, and helping to shape engineering standards for the system.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services, network components, SDKs or distributed systems using Rust
- Optimize system performance, memory footprint, concurrency and throughput; troubleshoot latency and stability issues
- Write clean, well-tested, idiomatic Rust code, including unit tests, integration tests and benchmark suites
- Review code from peers, promote best practices, and improve internal coding guidelines
- Integrate with databases, message queues, gRPC/REST APIs and observability stacks (logging, metrics, tracing)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, estimate work and deliver features on schedule
- Contribute to technical design documents, architecture decisions and risk assessment
- Keep up with Rust ecosystem updates, evaluate crates and avoid unsafe pitfalls
Requirements
- Solid hands-on production experience writing Rust; comfortable with ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, async Rust and concurrency primitives
- Strong understanding of computer fundamentals: memory model, TCP/IP, multi-threading, data structures & algorithms
- Experience building backend services or system software; familiarity with at least one async runtime (tokio preferred)
- Good knowledge of CI/CD, Git, containerization (Docker) and Linux environment
- Ability to write high-quality tests, debug production issues and profile performance bottlenecks
- Proficient in English for technical communication; clear verbal and written communication
Nice to have:
- Experience with distributed systems, consensus protocols, caching or high-throughput data pipelines
- Exposure to gRPC, Protobuf, SQL / NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with observability tools: OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana
- Experience with unsafe Rust and FFI
- Prior open-source Rust contributions
Benefits
- Performance bonus
- Flexible hybrid working arrangement
- Learning budget for conferences, courses and books
- Modern engineering culture, minimal bureaucracy
- Hardware and tooling support
