About This Role
This contract role is for an experienced Rust engineer to directly shape how AI writes and reasons about systems-level code. The work involves reviewing, evaluating, and improving AI-generated Rust code to ensure the next generation of AI understands memory safety, concurrency, and performance at an expert level. It is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for senior Rust developers seeking meaningful, intellectually engaging work on their own schedule.
Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate AI-generated Rust code for correctness, memory safety, concurrency, and performance
- Design, build, and optimize high-performance systems in Rust to support AI evaluation workflows
- Develop backend services and tooling for large-scale data validation and quality control
- Identify bottlenecks, edge cases, and system-level failure modes — and implement scalable fixes
- Provide structured, expert feedback on AI outputs across a range of systems programming challenges
- Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience writing production-grade Rust with a focus on memory safety and concurrency
- Strong background in systems programming and performance optimization
- Able to spot subtle bugs, unsafe patterns, and inefficient designs that AI might miss
- Fluent in English with the ability to explain complex low-level programming concepts clearly and precisely
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field
- Self-motivated and consistent when working independently
Nice to have:
- Experience with distributed systems architecture or developer tooling
- Familiarity with AI code generation tools or evaluation workflows
- Background in embedded systems, OS development, or compiler engineering
- Prior experience in technical writing, code review, or mentoring
Benefits
- Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading AI research labs
- Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
- Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based work
- Make a direct, tangible impact on how AI understands and generates systems-level code
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
