RPN-TPT Adult Mental Health

About This Role

This nursing role involves providing quality care to adult mental health patients, including those with complex and unpredictable outcomes. The Registered Practical Nurse will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, adhering to the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the hospital's patient and family-centered care philosophy. The position requires a commitment to creating a caring environment that ensures continuity of care and fosters a learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality nursing care to patients, including complex patient populations whose outcomes are not predictable
• Practice within the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Philosophy of patient and family centered care, mission, vision, values, and policies of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre
• Use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery
• Collaborate with Registered Nurses when patients assigned to the RPN become unstable or have outcomes that are not as expected
• Identify and recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responses and take appropriate action
• Simultaneously manage multiple nursing interventions

Requirements

• Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or the ability to become licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Current certification in BCLS
• Recent knowledge in Acute Mental Health Nursing with experience caring for patients with addictions, mental status examinations, Trauma Informed Care, and developing, leading, and evaluating patient groups
• Ability to use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery
• Collaborates with Registered Nurses when patients assigned to the RPN become unstable or have outcomes that are not as expected
• Identify and recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responses and take appropriate action
• Ability to simultaneously manage multiple nursing interventions
• Strong interprofessional and communication skills

Nice to have:

• Certification, or recent continuing education in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing
• Knowledge of current legislation, including the Mental Health Act
