POSITION TITLE:
Routing & Scheduling Specialist
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To develop and maintain regular-year and summer school bus routes and other transportation services for students by utilizing specialized transportation routing software (Compass). To meet requirements established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as well as federal mandates under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other federal regulations.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Affirm transportation eligibility in compliance with federal rules, TEA and CISD board policy.

Create appropriate individual student bus stop locations and routes that meet Admissions Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee and the walk to stop policy. Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and safety requirements.

Process transportation requests for all students. Assign bus stops to appropriate bus routes resulting in efficient and timely transportation operations.

Maintain and update routes to address student additions, deletes, and other changes in service requirements while ensuring compliance and maximum efficiency.

Serve as special education transportation liaison to problem-solve and communicate effectively with parents, district officials, and special education department personnel as well as transportation operations staff.

Analyze route classifications and driver survey requests to determine appropriate compensation for each route.

Perform special routing projects and analysis. Generate reports as required, including the TEA annual route report substantiating annual reimbursement to the district.

Create and maintain critical data files for all students receiving special educations transportation services. Perform software maintenance for Compass routing system.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Clearance of Criminal History check
- Must pass randomly administered drug and alcohol test (a refusal for drug and alcohol test will be considered an automatic positive)
- Obtain and pass an annual DOT physical to meet same criteria as bus drivers
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle record
- Valid Class B Texas Commercial driver’s license with P&S Endorsements (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
- Must meet same qualifications as a school bus driver
- Must be able to drive a school bus route as needed
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of transportation routing software
- Working knowledge of various software to include MS Office and GPS.
- Ability to organize and interpret student data for all students to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply map-based information
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district
- Ability to communicate and work with bus drivers on routing needs
- Demonstrate ability in communicating and working with parents/guardians, campus administrators and co-workers

Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Have detailed knowledge of the geographic area and street network of the Montgomery County area. Ability to travel throughout the district and city. Ability to read, communicate verbally, understand verbal and written directions. Ability to lift 25-60 lbs., stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, bend, climb and/or be mobile.
