About the role

Job Purpose The Rig Superintendent is a highly experienced and results-oriented leader within the Operations department, taking overall responsibility for the performance and profitability of assigned rigs. This leadership role encompasses Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), maintenance, operations, personnel management (including subcontractors), and asset protection/management. The successful candidate will foster a culture of excellence that prioritizes safety and collaboration while building strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient, cost-effective project completion.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • As a Rig Superintendent, you will be primarily responsible for the overall supervision of rig activities. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Drilling Operations & Well Completion: Overseeing and optimizing day-to-day drilling operations to ensure efficiency and technical success.
  • Rig Management & Oversight: Managing the overall performance, profitability, and operational integrity of the assigned rigs.
  • Quality Assurance & HSE: Upholding stringent quality assurance standards, ensuring compliance with HSE regulations, and leading safety initiatives across the operation.
  • Personnel Management & Training: Leading, motivating, and managing multiple drilling crews (including subcontractors) and overseeing personnel training and development.
  • Logistics & Support Services: Coordinating rig logistics, supply chains, and external support services to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Client Relations & Business Development: Acting as the primary point of contact for clients on-site, building positive, long-lasting relationships, and addressing stakeholder needs effectively.
  • Required Experience & Competencies

Relevant Experience

  • Proven track record of leading, managing, and motivating multiple drilling crews.
  • Extensive, hands-on experience in managing all aspects of wellbore operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize drilling performance, reduce operational costs, and consistently meet project timelines.
  • Strong understanding of HSE regulations and a proven, demonstrable commitment to safety leadership.
  • Solid experience in building and maintaining positive client and internal stakeholder relationships.

Education & Qualifications

  • Basic Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; Any Graduation is accepted.
  • Preferred Education: A Technical Degree or Diploma in Drilling Technology or a related engineering field is highly preferred.

Certifications

  • Well Control: Valid IWCF or IADC Well Control Certificate at the Supervisor Level.
  • Additional: Other industry-recognized drilling and HSE certifications will be considered an asset.
