Research Scientist

About This Role

This role requires extensive experience in pesticide/agrochemical formulation development and the ability to work effectively in a formulation laboratory. It involves leading the development of crop protection formulations and generating scientific and technical data using established systems and protocols.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of Crop Protection formulations
• Formulate and generate scientific/technical data using established systems, procedures, and protocols in a delegated area of work
• Define experimental programs, including the development of new pesticide formulations, procedures, and standards
• Interpret data to contribute to decisions on work program content, procedures, or problem solutions
• Engage directly with other functions to coordinate delivery of project outputs (e.g., product biology, regulatory, procurement, engineering, packaging) with leader support
• Report on work, including recommendations, to the project team or sub-project team leader
• Participate in regional and global technical/project teams
• Represent formulation development work/status at every developmental stage to the global peer review team and adhere to project timelines
• Plan, organize, and carry out work programs at laboratory, semi-technical, pilot plant, or manufacturing scale to design novel pesticide formulation options to prove suitability for progression through Stage C and D Evaluation and Development
• Provide Product Chemistry type and/or supporting data
• Provide formulation design input required to define process equipment and quality assurance requirements to timescales and specifications agreed with the team or group leader
• Ensure the quality of Evaluation and Development formulations by arranging for biological efficacy, toxicology, and hazard assessment studies to be carried out in other Functions
• Provide advice and recommendations for appropriate selection of formulation manufacturing sites for individual products, together with product design inputs required to define process equipment and quality assurance requirements
• Interpret and represent experimental data to project members external to the function, reporting results and conclusions orally and in written form for timely Stage C and D project decisions, Regulatory submissions, and accurate information archiving and transfer for future commercial manufacturing activities
• Ensure that work by the job holder and subordinate staff complies with Syngenta standard operating procedures and statutory regulations (e.g., GLP or similar)
• Ensure that the jobholder and subordinate staff work safely and healthily with due care for others, achieving compliance with Syngenta’s HSE Policy
• Invest in personal and professional development and growth, undertaking training and development activities and ensuring familiarity with new research and literature
